On a red planet
I'm an alien with teeth
Looking at a ship
I feel lonely on this land
I am in another world.
K.G.

Really groovy tunes
Wild and crazy music
Playing the guitar
happiness and excitement
In invigorating music
J.R.

Today at the beach
Building sand castles all day
Waves crash on the shore
I love the calm solitude
My day , All day , at the beach.
M.H.

Beach day all the way
Alone at the beach right now
Sun is burning hot
My time , myself , my pleasure
I like going to the beach.
L.J.

Fast , exciting car
Big man with a girl
speeding down the road
Adrenaline rushing me
The fast and the furious.
D.S.

Watching basketball
below a girl plays alone
the ball is bouncing
Wishing that I could join in
My whole world seems to pause now.
E.L.

Walking on the beach
ocean and sun all around
Birds flying above
I am getting a sun burn
Nature is surrounding me.
A.B.

Magnificent clouds
I am alone with my thoughts
look up at the sky
All my worries disappear
Sun , beautiful clouds , sky.
L.J

Zoning out right now
Psychedelic paradise
drifting into space
a feeling of senselessness
floating high above the stars.
M.K.

Poems created after the Masquerade Ball

2001 (Back to Top)

These poems were written by students in all three sixth grade classes. Art, Music and Physical Education departments did an integrated unit on The Phantom of the Opera, where opera is studied in music, ballroom dancing is learned in physical education and mask making is studied in art. The culminating activity was a masquerade ball. The following poems were written as part of the evaluation and reflection process in art class:

To cover my face, to cover my feelings
To become someone
no one knows who I am
Who might be
Who I want to be
Masquerade
J.S.

Behind a mask
Hiding your face
Seeing everyone but yourself
Look around
No one sees you
Feeling the touch of the mask
Nice and gentle
Nervous of what they think
A.J.

Nervous , confidence changes throughout the day
Fun , exciting, dancing makes you feel better
Makes you feel mysterious,
Like you are hiding a secret
Makes you wonder what will happen next.
B.G.

Behind a mask is very lonely....
can't you see what I am showing....
this is how I feel....
It's like I'm not here...
but I really am...
it's my mask that you're seeing...
not me...
can you see the fear...
that is within ?
K.B.

Mysterious
Advantage
Sacred
King of all beauty
V.R.

Behind a mask
Feeling scared,
not wanting to show
your face,
different colors,
different shapes, wanting
to know who was behind
the mask, but who
can name the face.
V.H.

People feel nervous.
Everyone around them having a good time
You try to feel like someone else.
Maybe then you'll have fun.
Colors, decorations, sparkles, feathers
All around you that's all you see
You realize even with a mask you're the same
You can't hide yourself.
K.F.

I feel so hidden and safe.
I Feel no one knows who you are but you.
I feel comfortable and alone.
I feel no one can harm you but yourself.
M.B.

I feel different, scared, not myself
but what is my reason for fear?
I am hiding, no one will find me here.
They don't know who I am,
not even who I was,
but as talk in a disguised voice.
I tell them though,
I am the sun.
The horrible, terrible sun,
Burn.
C.C.

Storm Poems

Storm
Peaceful, slumber, stolen
Awakened with surprise.
Electric blinding powerful light,
invading sleepy eyes.
Rumbling thunder rhythms,
Crackling dangerous sounds,
Heavy, shapeless, angry skies
Destruction to the ground.
K.N.D.

Thunder
By:
Adam
Clickedy, cluckedy, bang, crackly, crackle.
Flash down goes the tree,
Out goes the power.
Everything is dark and scary,
walk without a light.
Bang! Bang! Smack!
Don't trip either again.
Clickedy, clackedy, bang!
Pause for a second,
Flash, bang, flash bang!
Drip, drip, drip, drip,
It's poring rain.
Wshhhhhhhhhh, crrrrrrrack, cablam!
Down goes the tree,
Slam into the house.
Vrree,
On comes the power.
It's over.

Thunder and Lightning
By:
Ashley

A surprising boom in a monsoon,
A blinding light that gives you fright,
A flash that can give you a zap.
A crash, a bang, a boom; that's what you'll hear.
If you get caught in this, you will be sorry.

Lightning
By:
Megan

Lightning is bright,
Lightning makes a flash,
It makes a big flash.
It is like a big slash.
Lightning is monstrous,
Lightning is powerful,
lightning is jagged,
Lightning is deadly,
Lightning makes a zap.
Lightning is huge.
YA!

Peace
By: Michelle

I believe that peace, what we have somehow lost and gained is rightfully what we need in this world. Peace, we have lost with wars against other countries, yet we have gained peace through the loss of September 11, 2001. I do not yet know what peace actually is. peace is something that is not common even with humans. We fight even when you think your friends. Yet, when you lose someone so close to you you realize that all those fights were worth it because you forgive, forget, and realize nothing is perfect nothing ever will be perfect without peace, love. kindness and many other things that are essential to life. Either way I'm proud to be an American with or without peace.

Peace Is...
By: Rebecca

In a world that's joyful and happy.
In a world with laughter and smiles
In a world where we're free
and choose our religions in a
world without hatred and fight
in a world with out murder or suicide
is peace
But some might not think that
Some might be satisfied with
hurting other people or countries
for them to have peace some
might hate laughter and joy
for them to have peace some
might wish us all dead to
have peace and some might
want to be dead or murder
and that to them might be
peace
but to me its sick and cruel
But to them its joy and fun
So my opinion on peace
maybe different or very
much the same so to me
Joy and laughter is peace

Peace
By: Kelly

Pride
Everyone sticking together
A lot of pain running through ever bodies body
Cemeteries filling up with lost souls
Education of the world is being shared with the entire nation.

Peace
By: Kyle

Peace is when you stick up your pointer and middle finger
peace is, good for you if you don't have peace you are bad
like Bin Laden and the taliban. We have had peace for a while
until September 11, 2001. I hope we have peace for the rest of my good life. all the hippies walk down the street with their bell bottoms and the special clothes going "peace dude!" The hippies also say "dude" and "sweet." The taliban don't have peace because they run around shooting with machine guns .

Peace
By:Jacob

Red is for the devil
Blue is for the receiver of evil and out puts good
White is for the media who upsets all
When red and blue are put together
ONE peaceful society which blue overrules
The devils red with the peaceful blue
the blue making people all to good
The red men shall go away including robbers,
killers,and the crime makers.
blue forms the innocent.
and white upsetting the settling peace.

September 11.2001
By: Sarah

In a world where all are free
Doves will fly aimlessly
Bringing peace where ever they go
Some fly fast and some fly slow.
In our world war erupts it a slight fingers touch
As the war drowns sound out
A shadow falls without a drought
On all those who want and need
it is war that they need.
But I say we all leave
to a world where all are free.

Peace
By:Megan

P is for passionate.
E is for ecstatic.
A is for a lot of good times.
C is for connecting all the people together
E is for extraordinary feelings.

The Storm
By:Kyle
Flash! goes the lightning. Boom! goes the thunder but don't get caught in the lightning because you can get struck, Thunder is dark, lightning is light, lightning looks very sweet and beautiful, Although people hate the thunder it's the lightning you better watch out for!!

Thunder & Lightning
By: Rebecca
The loud alarming thunder
BOOM, BANG, CRACK, ZAP
Fills the skies above
And then flies a dove
Huge electric zaps
and blinding bats
Powerful beautiful flashes
the sky lights up and then....
BOOM!!!!!

The dark clouds gather in the sky
far away a baby cries
BOOM! CRACK!!
The clouds will yell
BANG! SMACK!!
it's hard to tell
what to do
where to go
When will this storm slow
it fells so empty in this dark room
i think that this shall be my doom
suddenly the storm does break
i think I'll go have some cake!
